Dr. Small is a top-rated orthopedic surgeon in Tulsa, Oklahoma specializing in hip and knee replacement surgery. Dr. Small uses the latest techniques and technology in joint replacement for a better experience and optimal recovery. Most of Dr. Small’s patients often recover in the convenience of home with outpatient hip and knee replacement. Dr. Small believes that patients come first. He advocates one-on-one care with open communication, to ensure each individual person has a better understanding of his or her healthcare journey.

Dr. Small grew up in Alva, OK on a farm in the northwest corner of the state. He enjoyed working on the farm with alfalfa, cattle and horses, also loved playing basketball. He continued to play collegiately on scholarship at Murray State College in Tishomingo. He then completed his undergraduate training in Zoology at the University of Oklahoma. He then traveled to Erie Pennsylvania for his medical school training. After medical school he completed an internship in Queens New York. He then completed a year of research in hip and knee replacement surgery at Cleveland Clinic. After research, he completed his residency in orthopedic surgery in Erie, PA, doing rotations at Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston WV for Level 1 trauma surgery and pediatric surgery at Cincinnati Childrens hospital. After residency he completed a fellowship in hip and knee replacement and revision procedures specializing in Direct Anterior hip replacement at Norton Healthcare in Louisville, KY.

Dr. Small relocated back to his home state of Oklahoma to specialize in hip and knee replacement in 2018 where he has practiced in both private practice and hospital employed at St. Francis. During his tenure in Tulsa, he has been active as a faculty member for Oklahoma State University Medical Center with both research and training residents. He is also involved with the development and design of orthopedic implants related to hip and knee replacement surgery. He was also voted top 40 under 40 in Oklahoma Magazine.

While not working he loves spending time with his beautiful wife and children. He is very active with his kids’ sporting events and activities at their school, Holland Hall. He also loves to exercise, spend time outdoors, travel and support University of Oklahoma athletics.
